New team investigates the disappearance of Ayotzinapa

The Mexican government is promoting a new investigative team that uses advanced technology to solve the disappearance of the 43 Ayotzinapa students since 2014. This comes amid the detention in Mexico City of a suspected individual involved in the case. Vidulfo Rosales, lawyer for the families, shared this information after a meeting between the parents of the missing students from the Isidro Burgos normal school in Guerrero and President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Rosales mentioned that the new investigative team is employing advanced technology, including cell phone analysis, which has resulted in recent arrests. This approach now relies on the use of scientific data to clarify the facts. The lawyer pointed out that this team will continue working on the issue of military files that the Mexican Army has not provided.

Regarding pending information according to the families of the missing, Rosales added that the president assures that the Army has provided all available information. Although the progress does not fully satisfy the relatives, it is recognized that progress is being made in the investigation, especially by taking a more scientific approach after a period of sterile confrontation in the previous government.

The insistence of the families on the opening of military files is also highlighted. While the lack of access to key documents from the Army is acknowledged, the president is committed to continuing to work on it. The intensity of cell phone analysis and other scientific data has increased in this phase of the investigation.

In another related development, security forces re-arrested Martín Alejandro 'N', alias 'El Kamala', a suspected individual involved in the disappearance of the 43 students, in Mexico City. The arrest was the result of coordinated investigations among various security agencies. Martín Alejandro 'N' faces charges of organized crime and enforced disappearance, having been previously released due to alleged torture.

Although the progress is not as fast as the families would like, it is noted that the current focus on the investigation is positive as attention to the case is resumed and progress is made in clarifying what happened.
